Inside-out

A poem about our meeting

Inside
I leap into
your arms
the way wayward waves
rush towards the shore.

* * *

Outside
I am still,
I hold on to the
quaking ground
quietly
meeting your
stormy eyes.

* * *

Inside
I kiss you,
your mouth
an answer
to all my prayers.

* * *

Outside
I stay silent,
gathering, containing
these emotions
that burst forth.

* * *

Inside
I touch your face
and time stays still
while I read
how these years apart
have worn us. pained us.
ruined us.

* * *

Outside
a single tear
breaks through
the shell.
