search

I search
beyond the river
of light
that flows
through the forest
of bamboo and grass,

endless circles
of todays and tomorrows,

I begin
as I did ages ago,

the texture
of your voice
clear
as dew
that collects on leaves,
and the falling raindrops
mimic
the sound
of your laugh,

Within my soul
I find
impressions of you
like storms raging
through the seas
and high winds
that beat against
lighthouses,

I see your face
in the mirror
of my heart,
like the calm
serene
surface
of a lake,
I approach
and it ripples
disturbed
by my footsteps,

my body
yearns
your familiar touch,
light as the breeze
that tickles
quivering lanterns
up on treetops,

pebbles are ground
by currents
into even smoothness
and stars
burn bright and extinguish
momentarily,
as I find my way,

beyond the river
of light
that flows
through the forest
of bamboo and grass,
my search
for you remains
endless.

[This poem is inspired by @musicallykerr Ally Kerr’s the sore feet song and of course Mushishimy favourite anime of all time. The mood is of a quaint little Japanese village set at the edge of the forest, and the endless search for a soulmate through everything familiar and worldly. I would love feedback on this one. Anyone?]
