hereafter

They have buried me deep,
in the earth
where roots of trees,
are my sole company;
The mud blankets me,
whole,
from head to toe,
and rounded stones,
are wedged in sockets,
where my eyes used to be;
My skin is shed,
loosened,
given up;
My belly,
is swarming with bugs and their larvae;
My thoughts too are dead,
transiting,
other worldly;
I am sinking away,
from everyone I once knew,
and everything familiar;
Noting the carving on my bones,
my rotting skeleton,
wants to turn,
away
burrow,
into the womb
of my mother
and stay there.
untouched.
untouchable.
absolved.
breathing, my last wishes into the veins
of the black rose that blooms,
too far
unseen
swaying over my grave.
