what if I lost
a part of me in you?
and now that part of me
is lost forever somewhere in the
depths of your eyes that’ll never look for me…

like we
us, remain entwined in the past
flickering as I gaze through these ruins,
smoke and debris.

like us
we, remain inseparable
I dissolved in you
like salt does in the sea.

and you like rain
in the clouds of me.

but separated now, fallen
and stretched
wrenched and jostled
churned and churned
warmed and then turned deathly cold,

I am listless,
restless. utterly incomplete.
I don’t know what I lost
to you, and what I carry in this feeble heart
that you lost. that you lost to me.
